Year 4 - St. Peter

Welcome to Year 4!

Class Teacher - Miss Merritt

Teaching Assistant - Miss Evans

Our Curriculum

This half term, we will be learning about the History of our local area. We will find out about Morecambe's fishing past and how Morecambe grew to become a thriving tourist town in the 20th century. We will be reading a range of non-fiction texts explaining Morecambe's history. Our focus will be on using new, descriptive vocabulary. We will then be applying our new vocabulary to our own non-fiction writing.

If you have any photos from Morecambe in the past we would be more than happy for you to bring them in and share them with the class!

In Maths, we are studying place value. We will be learning how to partition, round and estimate numbers with 4 digits.

Please practice Times Table Rock Stars at home as often as possible.

In RE, our theme is God's family. We will be learning about some of the people in God's great family, including Abraham, Moses and David.

In History, we will be looking at maps and photographs of our local area and studying how it changed over time.

In Science, we are learning about sound and how it travels through the air, water and solid objects.

Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school at all times. No jewellery is to be worn for PE. PE is timetabled on Thursday but may take place at other times during the week.

One of the most important parts of homework is to talk about what we have been learning about in school. Please ask your child about what they have been learning in English and maths as often as possible.

We will have a spelling test every Friday. Please practice your weekly spellings at home to make sure you can get your best scores on these spelling tests. You can practice these using look, cover, write, check and record your practices in your homework books.

Please read daily with your child and make a comment in their reading record. Ask questions to your child about their reading book to ensure that they have a better understanding of what they have read.

We will be using Mathletics, Numbots and Times Table Rockstars for our maths homework. Please check these to see your set tasks.
