The Catholic Life of Our School in Year 4:

Our Curriculum

Following on from our theme of 'Water, Water Everywhere', this half term we will be looking at whales and their habitats. We will be learning about the different types of whales, the biomes and climates that they live in and whaling. We will be reading a range of non-fiction and fiction texts, including 'This Morning I Met A Whale' by Michael Morpurgo. Our reading focus will be explaining our answers using evidence from the text. Our focus for punctuation will be on using apostrophes and inverted commas. We will then be applying these into our non-fiction and fiction writing.

In Maths, we are studying money. We will be learning how to convert pounds and pence, compare, estimate and calculate with money.

This month, we will be taking the optional times tables test so please practice TTRS at home as often as possible.

In RE, our theme is Pentecost. We will be learning about the symbols used to represent the Holy Spirit.

In Geography and Science, we will be exploring animals and their habitats.

Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school at all times. No jewellery is to be worn for PE. PE is timetabled on Thursday but may take place at other times during the week.

One of the most important parts of homework is to talk about what we have been learning about in school. Please ask your child about what they have been learning in English and maths as often as possible.

We will have a spelling test every Friday. Please practice your weekly spellings at home to make sure you can get your best scores on these spelling tests. You can practice these using look, cover, write, check and record your practices in your homework books.

Please read daily with your child and make a comment in their reading record. Ask questions to your child about their reading book to ensure that they have a better understanding of what they have read.

We will be using Mathletics and Times Table Rockstars for our maths homework. Please check these to see your set tasks.
