Our Curriculum

English

This half term, our theme will be Europe. We will be focusing specifically on Switzerland and the swiss legend of Heidi. As we read Heidi's adventures, we will be learning to infer a character's thoughts, feelings, actions and motives. In our grammar work, we will be studying noun phrases and including these in our writing.

Maths

In Maths, we are studying division. We will then be learning about fractions.

Please practice Times Table Rock Stars at home as often as possible. This is an important term for practicing times tables as the official Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check will take place in June.

R.E.

In RE, our themes will be our Local Church and the Sacrament of the Eucharist. In our unit on the Local Church, we will be reflecting on Jesus' words to his disciples and considering our own roles as a church family. In our unit on the Eucharist, our focus will be on the bible story of the Last Supper.

Topic

In Geography, we will be using globes, atlases and maps when looking at areas within Europe. We will find and use contour lines, OS symbols and lines of latitude and longitude.

In Science, we will be exploring living things and their habitats. We will be grouping and classifying animals that live in the Swiss Alps.

P.E.

Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school at all times. No jewellery is to be worn for PE. PE is timetabled on Thursday but may take place at other times during the week.

Homework:

One of the most important parts of homework is to talk about what we have been learning about in school. Please ask your child about what they have been learning in English and maths as often as possible.

Spellings:

We will have a spelling test every Friday. Please practice your weekly spellings at home to make sure you can get your best scores on these spelling tests. You can practice these using look, cover, write, check and record your practices in your homework books.

Reading:

Please read daily with your child and make a comment in their reading record. Ask questions to your child about their reading book to ensure that they have a better understanding of what they have read.

Maths:

We will be using Mathletics, Numbots and Times Table Rockstars for our maths homework. Please check these to see your set tasks.
