Class Termly Information Sheet for Parents

Our Curriculum

This half term, our theme will be ‘Water, Water Everywhere’. We will be reading non-fiction texts on the Water Cycle and the journey of a river. As we read these, we will be focusing on building our knowledge of inference and explanation. In our grammar work, we will be studying fronted adverbials and including these in our writing.

In Maths, we will be studying Shape, Statistics and Measure.

Please practice Times Table Rock Stars at home as often as possible. This is a crucial half term for practicing times tables as the official Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check will take place in June. We will be having our unofficial practice check in May. Please see the document on our class webpage for more information about the Year 4 Multiplication Check.

In RE, our themes will be Pentecost, Reconciliation and the Universal Church. In our unit on Pentecost, we will learn about the fruit of the Holy Spirit. When exploring Reconciliation, we will reflect on how Jesus chose to forgive Peter after his resurrection.

In Science, we will be learning about states of matter. We will use key vocabulary such as solid, liquid, gas, temperature, evaporation and condensation as we explore the water cycle.

In Geography, we will be describing key aspects of physical geography including the water cycle and the journey a river will take.

Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school at all times. No jewellery is to be worn for PE. PE is timetabled on Thursday but may take place at other times during the week.

One of the most important parts of homework is to talk about what we have been learning about in school. Please ask your child about what they have been learning in English and maths as often as possible.

We will have a spelling test every Friday. Please practice your weekly spellings at home to make sure you can get your best scores on these spelling tests. You can practice these using look, cover, write, check and record your practices in your homework books.

Please read daily with your child and make a comment in their reading record. Ask questions to your child about their reading book to ensure that they have a better understanding of what they have read.

We will be using Mathletics, Numbots and Times Table Rockstars for our maths homework. Please check these to see your set tasks.
