Phonic Screening Check
What is the phonics screening check?
The phonic screening check is a quick and easy way to check your child's phonic knowledge. This is a national assessment delivered to all Year 1 children.
When will the phonics screening take place?
The screening this year will take place June 2023
How does the check work?
Your child will be asked to read 40 words aloud. The words are split into real words and nonsense/alien words. The nonsense/alien words test your child's decoding skills using their phonic knowledge.
Results
You child's results will be reported to you in the Summer Term. If you child has not met the required level we will continue to support them in school. They will have the opportunity to retake the check in Year 2.
Our Class Reading Bear is ready to visit your homes.
