Year 1 - St. Francis of Assisi
On Monday 4th October we celebrated the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of animals. The children brought in their favourite animals and made lollipop bees. We celebrated by making party hats and having cakes and biscuits. The money brought in by some of the children will be donated to the bee charity.
Phonic Screening Check
What is the phonics screening check?
The phonic screening check is a quick and easy way to check your child's phonic knowledge. This is a national assessment delivered to all Year 1 children.
When will the phonics screening take place?
The screening this year will take place on Wednesday 8th June 2022.
How does the check work?
Your child will be asked to read 40 words aloud. The words are split into real words and nonsense/alien words. The nonsense/alien words test your child's decoding skills using their phonic knowledge.
You child's results will be reported to you in the Summer Term. If you child has not met the required level we will continue to support them in school. They will have the opportunity to retake the check in Year 2.
Year 1 have started book week
The value this half term is curious. The children looked at curious objects.
A parent came to help us with our learning.

As part of our animal topic, we are learning all about bees. Above are some facts you may not know!
In maths we are learning all about numbers and shapes. We will be learning all about telling the time and thinking about 2D and 3D shapes. Please keep counting in 2's, 5's and 10's at home.
In English we are listening to and learning poems on a theme. We are thinking about traditional stories and will be writing our own. Please keep reading with your child at home for at least 10 minutes every night.
We will be busy learning about animals and the seasons. In art, we are experimenting with a variety of media and investigating tone.
In computing we are using purplemash and you can use your child's login to access this at home.
Geography sees us using maps as we look at the UK and the Continents of the world.
PE is on Wednesday and Thursdays and children need to come dressed ready for PE. Children with pierced ears must not wear their earrings on PE days.
Water bottles will be sent home Friday to wash and return Monday.
The most important thing I can say to you is PLEASE listen to your child read.
